Glossary Terms for Shared Register of Environmental Data Sources (EDS)
Shared Register of Environmental Data Sources (EDS)
The Shared Register of Environmental Data Sources (EDS) is a register developed as part of the environmental work programme of the North South Ministerial Council. The aim of EDS is to provide an island of Ireland web reference system on relevant environmental data. EDS holds information on who has what environmental data, where, in what form, and how it may be accessed. Currently EDS holds information on relevant environmental datasets based on the theme of "Water". It is proposed to extend this in the future.

Frequency Status
The frequency of surveying/measuring/sampling/collating of the dataset, e.g., on-going, annual sampling, etc.
Supply Media
The most accessible supply media format available for the dataset, i.e., on-line, digital, paper.
Storage Format
The software system that holds the dataset, e.g., Microsoft Access database, Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, ArcView GIS, etc.
